Inqilab Moncho is not ruling out anyone from suspicion in the attack on its Convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi, including his election rivals and the ousted Awami League.
The platform has given the interim government 24 hours to arrest those behind the attack.
On Friday night at a press conference outside Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara Residential Area, Inquilab Mancha’s Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber and DUCSU leader Fatima Tasnim Jhuma outlined the platform’s position.
Blaming the government, Jaber said: “An administration that cannot protect Osman Hadi cannot protect Bangladesh.
“God forbid, if anything happens to him, the interim government will bear responsibility.”
Asked if they suspected anyone, Jaber said: “We are not looking at anyone with suspicion, nor are we excluding anyone.
“In electoral politics, many may see Osman Hadi as an opponent, and that could be a reason.
"Again, it might be the Awami League, the deposed autocrats against whom [Hadi] was a strong voice, thinking that by killing him, they can return to Bangladesh.
“We want to say clearly, Osman Hadi is now replicated in every home."
According to him, Hadi is receiving the best available treatment at Evercare Hospital, including provision for medical care abroad if necessary.
He and Jhuma requested that no statements from others be circulated as representing Inqilab Moncho.
The platform announced a protest in Shahbagh at 12pm on Saturday.
Hadi, a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8, was attacked on Box Culvert Road in Bijoynagar after Friday prayers.
He was taken in critical condition to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and later to Evercare.
Before being shifted, Hadi underwent surgery at DMCH. Doctors say the bullet may have passed clean through his skull.
Following the July Uprising, Osman Hadi established the cultural and political platform, aimed at standing against “all forms of domination and safeguarding independence, sovereignty, and justice”.
Hadi, one of the prominent faces of the movement demanding the banning of the Awami League, commented after the tribunal verdict sentencing Sheikh Hasina to death: "This verdict has set a precedent for the entire world."
In July at Dhaka University, he said if the BNP came to power following “old-style” politics, it would not last even two years. At the same event, he also criticised the Army’s role.
Hadi had also proposed forming a national government, criticising the Muhammad Yunus government’s “weaknesses and apparent failure to bring change”.
