“The White Lotus” is set to return for a fourth season, with France emerging as the likely backdrop.
Creator Mike White and HBO have set their sights on the country, according to entertainment news platform Deadline, which cited people familiar with the production.
The Emmy-winning series, part murder mystery and part dark comedy, has built its identity around lavish resorts that double as pressure cookers for class conflict, dysfunction and betrayal.
Each season so far has been anchored in a new locale - Hawaii in its debut, Sicily in Season 2, and Thailand in Season 3.
France has long been floated as a contender. Location scouting, originally planned for early spring, was delayed after White paused following the production of Season 3.
With scouting now underway, the French Riviera appears to be a frontrunner.
Among the rumoured settings is the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, a Four Seasons property perched dramatically on the Cap-Ferrat peninsula near Cannes.
Known for its cinematic history, the hotel would offer a fittingly glamorous stage for the series.
Still, HBO has not finalised a site yet.
Past seasons have drawn on multiple locations beyond the Four Seasons chain, despite the network’s ongoing marketing partnership with the brand.
In Thailand, for instance, the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui served as the central backdrop, but three other hotels also featured prominently.
Should the production return to Four Seasons properties, two other French options are in play - the alpine retreat in Megève and the George V in Paris.
No casting announcements have been made so far, and HBO declined to comment on the location.
