Absenteeism has remained strikingly high on the third day of the SSC and equivalent examinations, with 34,054 candidates staying away and 40 expelled amid tight oversight.
According to the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, Sunday's examinations saw 15,599 absentees under the nine general education boards,
Moreover, 14,963 were absent from the Madrasah Education Board’s Dakhil exams, and 3,492 skipped the Technical Education Board’s vocational tests.
The examinations were held simultaneously from 10am to 1pm at 3,875 centres across the country.
SSC candidates under the nine general education boards sat for the English First Paper on the third day.
Dakhil and vocational students took their Mathematics papers.
Despite "strict management" and CCTV surveillance, 40 students were expelled for cheating.
This includes 21 from the general boards, 15 from the madrasa board, and four from the technical board.
This year's SSC and equivalent examinations began on Apr 21.
Around 1.86 million students have registered to sit the examinations.
The written tests will conclude on May 20, followed by practical examinations from Jun 7 to Jun 14.
General Education Boards
According to committee statistics, SSC examinations under the nine general education boards were held at 2,481 centres.
A total of 1,208,346 students were registered, of whom 1,119,774 appeared.
The number of absentees stood at 15,599.
Dhaka Board had the highest number of candidates, with 308,640 registered.
Of them, 305,041 sat the examination, while 3,599 were absent. One student was expelled.
Under the Rajshahi Board, 2,059 of 154,714 candidates were absent, while three students were expelled.
Cumilla Board recorded 1,419 absentees among 122,813 candidates, and one student was expelled.
Jashore Board saw 1,977 absentees among 122,427 candidates.
At the Chattogram Board, 1,566 of 115,831 candidates were absent, and five students were expelled.
Sylhet Board recorded 831 absentees among 72,314 candidates, with one expulsion.
Barishal Board saw 1,473 absentees among 73,861 candidates, while eight students were expelled.
Dinajpur Board recorded 1,587 absentees among 150,863 candidates.
Mymensingh Board saw 1,088 absentees among 86,883 candidates, with two expulsions.
Madrasa and Technical Boards
Under the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board, 268,109 of 283,072 registered Dakhil candidates appeared at 741 centres.
The number of absentees was 14,963.
Under the Technical Education Board, the Mathematics-II examination was held at 653 centres.
Of 125,581 registered candidates, 122,089 appeared, leaving 3,492 absent.
