The National Board of Revenue has collected Tk 272.48 billion in July, marking a 24.32 percent year-on-year increase in receipts for the opening month of the fiscal year 2025–26.
The NBR, the state’s sole revenue authority, published the latest figures on Wednesday, confirming VAT as the highest-earning sector once again.
The figure, however, fell short of the Tk 301.10 billion monthly target, leaving a gap of Tk 28.64 billion.
Compared with the same month last year, revenue receipts have grown by Tk 53.31 billion.
In July 2024, collections stood at Tk 219.17 billion.
Collection from the customs segment reached Tk 96.01 billion, reflecting a 17.51 percent increase from Tk 81.70 billion in July 2024.
VAT receipts totalled Tk 113.52 billion, showing the strongest growth at 32.45 percent compared with Tk 85.71 billion collected in the same period last year.
Income tax brought in Tk 62.94 billion, up 21.63 percent from Tk 51.75 billion collected in July 2024.
For FY2026, the national budget has set total expenditure at Tk 7.90 trillion, with revenue income projected at Tk 5.64 trillion -- an 8.9 percent rise from the revised target for the previous year.
Of this, Tk 4.99 trillion is expected to be collected through the NBR, while Tk 650 billion will come from other sources.
