Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will lead the side in the limited-over edition, with all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan as his deputy, starting from the home series against Zimbabwe.
After the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup in England, Mohammad Ashraful was removed from captaincy. Mashrafe led the following series, against the West Indies, with Shakib as vice-captain.
However, Mashrafe opted out of the series with an injury that he picked up on the first day of the first Test. Shakib led the team for the remainder of that series.
After recovery, the paceman retained leadership for the Europe tour (England, Scotland and Ireland) in July 2010.
He was the captain in the ODI series against New Zealand at home in October that year as well. But 'The Narail Express' once again gave in to injury in the very first match.
Shakib had to replace Mashrafe as captain again for the rest of the series, which Bangladesh won 4-0. On Dec 31 that year, the board announced Shakib as captain and Tamim Iqbal as vice-captain of the team.
Shakib and Tamim lost their positions after failure in the 2011 Zimbabwe series. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad replaced them. Later Mahmudullah lost his vice-captaincy.
Bangladesh are going through a poor run of form this year, prompting the BCB to come up with the idea of choosing separate captains for Tests and one-dayers.
The move saw Shakib and Tamim return to leadership roles.
Mashrafe has led Bangladesh in seven ODIs; winning three and losing four. And Mushfiqur guided the team in 37 one-dayers with 11 wins and 24 losses.
Mushfiqur retains captaincy of the Test side, while Tamim will act as his deputy in the longer format.
