A Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) vice-presidential candidate backed by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has accused different panels and the administration of engaging in multiple code of conduct violations.

At a press conference outside Madhur Canteen on Monday, Abidul Islam Khan said the student faction of the BNP expected “political tolerance” on the Dhaka University campus after Aug 5. But, he said, some were repeatedly conspiring against them.

He accused Umama Fatema, the VP candidate of the Independent Students Unity panel, of violating the code of conduct by visiting the female residential halls at night and campaigning.

Abid said concerns have been raised about a level playing field after Umama entered Rokeya Hall.

Although she has apologised, violating the rules cannot be excused by an apology, he said, hoping the Election Commission will issue a clarification on the matter.

Abid also highlighted that two assistant general secretary candidates from Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall, Shafi and Rakibul Riyad, are accused of beating a man named Tofazzal to death on campus.

He added that general secretary candidate Enamul Hasan was previously a member of the Chhatra League.

“He was involved in the attack on Chhatra Dal on campus in 2022. We are questioning the Election Commission on how elections can proceed under such circumstances,” Abid said.

Regarding Sir AF Rahman Hall Provost Quazi Mahfujul Hoque Supan, he said: “The provost is directly supporting the ‘secret camp’ and the Bangladesh Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad backed candidates in AF Rahman Hall. He is patronising them.

“We are therefore lodging a formal complaint with the university and the Election Commission.”

The Chhatra Dal panel VP candidate said there is evidence to substantiate the complaint.
