The 48-year old Briton took charge on Monday after being appointed by the board of directors of the flag carrier on Sept 11 last year, Biman said in a media statement.
Apart from British Airways, Haywood also worked for Etihad, Gulf Air and low-cost carriers Air Arabia, and Nasair. He also was CEO of Air Uganda, in Africa, it said.
It said he had 28 years of proven track record in the field of aviation.
“Haywood comes with an amazing background in the commercial aviation arena and I am hopeful that he would, like a charismatic leader, instill in his followers a passionate commitment to the cause that we all have been working for in the last six years,” Biman Chairman Jamal Uddin Ahmed said.
After assuming charge, Haywood said, “I am delighted to be taking up this challenging role, particularly at a time when the airline pushes forward its modernisation programme."
"Biman is well placed to evolve into a stronger aviation player. The ongoing fleet renewal allows us to build and improve a strong network whilst providing better punctuality and overall customer experience.”
