The price of a 12 kg LPG cylinder has increased again: for February, the government has raised the price by Tk 1.97 per kg.
According to the new rate, the price of a 12 kg LPG cylinder, widely used for cooking, has been increased from Tk 1,459 to Tk 1,478—an increase of Tk 19.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, or BERC, announced the new price at a press conference on Sunday.
As usual, the revised price took effect from 6pm on the same day.
Despite a slight decline in international market prices, the government kept LPG prices unchanged in January, citing the "depreciation of the local currency against the US dollar".
On Jan 2, BERC had set the price of a 12 kg LPG cylinder at Tk 1,455—consistent with November and December.
However, due to an increase in value added tax, or VAT, the price was raised by Tk 4 on Jan 14, bringing it to Tk 1,459.
In its latest announcement, BERC said for February, Saudi Aramco's average price for propane and butane has been set at $628.50 per ton, up from $618.50 in January.
Considering this, the consumer-level prices for private LPG and autogas have been adjusted accordingly.
Under the new pricing, reticulated LPG will cost Tk 119.41 per kg, while the retail price of autogas has been set at Tk 67.74 per litre.
