Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Sub-Inspector Ahad Ali, who is the investigating officer as well, sought seven days to grill the three when they were produced in Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakrabarty’s court on Sunday.
The two others are Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJSC) storekeeper Rezaul Karim and a youth identified as Ishan Imtiaz Hridoy.
Police in the remand plea accused them of leaking the question paper of the BJSC recruitment test.
They, however, did not say whether those three were also involved in the leaking of question papers of the medical and dental college admission tests held on Friday.
Their lawyer Habibur Rahman Bappi told the court there was no need to remand them in custody as the Rapid Action Battalion had seized evidence of the trio’s involvement in the alleged crime during their raid on the UGC office on Friday.
The RAB had raided the UGC office at Agargaon and arrested the three when the medical entry tests were underway.
The UGC temporarily suspended Omar Siraj the same night while BJSC suspended Rezaul Karim the following day.
The case against them was also filed at the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station that day.
RAB claimed to have recovered 23 answer sheets and two question papers of the BJSC 2014 assistant judge recruitment test, Tk 200,000, cheques of Tk 400,000, seals of several government organisations, cheque books of several banks, three mobile phones, and an iPad.
The elite police unit also said Siraj was the kingpin of a ring that provided students with answers with the help of Bluetooth earphones.
It said the group helped the candidates during test for admission to medical courses and for recruitment to Bangladesh Krishi Bank, BJSC and other government organisations.
Probe team
The UGC has formed a four-member team, led by Commission member Prof Abul Hashem, to probe Omar Siraj’s alleged involvement in the racket.
The commission in a media statement on Sunday said the investigation committee would submit its findings within seven working days.
