As many as 31 vehicles have been burnt in different parts of Bangladesh during the three-day blockade called by the BNP, the Jamaat-e-Islami and their allies, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The incidents took place between 6am on Tuesday and 6pm on Thursday, the Fire Service said in a statement.
The burnt vehicles include 18 buses, four covered vans, five trucks, one car and three motorcycles. Two shops and a police box were also torched.
Most of the incidents occurred in Dhaka Division, mainly the capital, according to the Fire Service statement.
The BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami announced the blockade after clashes during their rallies in Dhaka and a subsequent shutdown.
Sometime after the two parties called another 48-hour blockade starting on Sunday, and the Fire Service issued the statement, another bus was torched outside Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka’s Mirpur.
