Government retires 18 judges in ‘public interest’

The interim government has retired 18 judicial officers, including 15 district and sessions judges, under a provision that allows retirement after 25 years of service.

The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued an official order on Thursday, confirming the move under Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018.

Among those retired, 15 are district and sessions judges, two are additional district and sessions judges, while one is a joint district and sessions judge.

“These members of the Bangladesh Judicial Service have been retired in public interest upon completing 25 years in service,” the directive reads.

The decision is effective immediately.

The retired district and sessions judges are:

· Bikash Kumar Saha

· Sheikh Mofizur Rahman

· Md Mahbuber Rahman Sarker

· Sheikh Golam Mahbub

· Md Mojibur Rahman

· Md Ehsanul Haque

· Md Jewel Rana

· Md Monir Kamal

· Shahidul Islam

· Al Mahmud Faizul Kabir

· Md Nazimuddaula

· A K M Mozammel Haque Chowdhury

· Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan

· Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman

· Md Rustam Ali

The two additional district and sessions judges are:

· Md Nurul Islam

· AKM Enamul Karim

The joint district and sessions judge is:

· Mohammad Hossain

According to the order, all officers will receive retirement benefits as per the applicable rules.
