The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Cumilla has postponed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams scheduled for Thursday due to heavy rainfall and flood situation.

The exams due that day included the first paper of Physics (theory) for the science stream, first paper of Accounting for business studies, and first paper of Logic for humanities.

Board Chairman Md Shamsul Islam confirmed the decision in a notice issued on Wednesday, adding that examinations will resume on Sunday as per the original schedule.

No decision, however, has been made yet on the new date for Thursday’s exams.

Runa Nasrin, the board’s controller of examinations, told bdnews24.com: “Only the Thursday HSC exams under Cumilla board have been postponed due to floods.

“The new date for these exams will be announced later.”

Continuous rainfall and hilly runoff have caused rivers to rise and waterlogging in parts of Cumilla, Feni and Noakhali throughout the week.

Many students and guardians were worried about Thursday’s exams, prompting the Cumilla education board to postpone them.

The HSC and equivalent exams began across the country on Jun 26, with around 1.25 million students sitting the tests across 2,797 centres.

According to the published schedule, the written exams are set to conclude on Aug 10, followed by practical tests from Aug 11 to 21.

The rescheduling of Thursday’s exams may slightly alter the existing timetable.
