Dhaka, Mar 8 (bdnews24.com) – A Dhaka court started recording witness accounts on Monday of the 2002 bombing at Mymensingh's Purabi Cinema Hall for which the outlawed Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh has been held responsible.
At least 17 people were killed in a coordinated bomb attack on four cinema halls in Mymensingh on Dec 7, 2002. A number of cases were filed with Mymensingh Kotwali Police Station under different laws including the explosives act in connection with the blasts.
Judge Md Rezaul Islam, of the Speedy Trial Tribunal–4, took statements on Monday from Md Dulal, the then assistant manager of the hall, and projectionist Md Ajahar.
The accused in the case, JMB's central committee members Salehuddin, a.k.a Salehin, and Jahidul Islam Sumon, a.k.a Mizan, were produced in court from prison. A third accused, JMB member Anwar Hossain, is absconding.
Salehin and Mizan questioned witnesses themselves while a state-appointed lawyer questioned them on behalf of Anwar.
