The decomposed body of a man has been recovered from a water tank at a house in the Brahmanbaria Municipality area.

The body was recovered from the single storey house of the late Dhawn Mia at College Para on Tuesday evening, said Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police Obaidur Rahman.

The dead man was identified as Md Talib Mia, 28. He was the son of the late Raja Mia from Kandipara. Locals say he had a mental disability.

Citing locals, police said Dhawn Mia’s wife turned on the tap to collect water for her daily chores in the evening and found blood in it. She then sent some people to check the water tank and the body was found inside.

When the incident was reported, police came to the scene, cut open the water tank and recovered the body.

ASP Obaidur said the body was sent to the morgue at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.

“The body had marks of injury on it. We believe he was killed and then dumped here.”

He also said an investigation is underway and police are collecting CCTV camera footage from the surrounding neighbourhoods.

The perpetrators involved will be brought to justice soon, Obaidur said.
