Mohammapdur police's Inspector Jane Alam Munshi said that he was arrested around 8am on Sunday from his home in Aminbazaar on the outskirts of the capital.
The woman had filed the case on Jan 5, said Mohammadpur police's OC Jamal Uddin Mir said.
“She complained that Arafat Sunny had been sending her indecent pictures over the Facebook messenger for some time,” the police official told reporters.
“He has been arrested on the basis of these allegations.”
Sub-inspector Yahiya, the investigation officer of the case, told bdnews24.com that, “Arafat Sunny will be sent to the court in a while.”
Bangladesh Cricket Board is yet to give an official statement on the issue.
“We are still trying to find out the details,” the board’s media committee chief Jalal Yunus said.
The spinner, who made his international debut against Sri Lanka in February 2014, played his last match in national colours at the World T20 in March last year.
During the tournament in India, he and pacer Taskin Ahmed was suspended by ICC for illegal bowling action.
The ban was later lifted after the game’s governing council approved his remodelled action.
Towards the end of last year he played for Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League where he grabbed 3 wickets without conceding any run, becoming only the second player to achieve the feat in a 20-over game after Sri Lanka’s Dinuka Hettiarachchi.
