The High Court has ordered authorities to report within 90 days on the security arrangements for judges of the Supreme Court premises, lower courts and tribunals, including their chambers and residences.
The court also issued a rule asking why inaction by the authorities to ensure overall security for judges should not be declared illegal.
A bench of Justice Shikder Mahmudur Raji and Justice Raziuddin Ahmed gave the order during the initial hearing of a writ petition.
Advocate Mohammad Omar Faruk, alongside Advocate Mokaddas Ahmed, also argued for the case.
Faruk told bdnews24.com that the petition was filed by Advocate Md Mehedi Hassan in the “public interest”.
Following the preliminary hearing, the court issued the order, demanding an explanation from authorities, he added.
According to him, the court also asked the registrar general to form a committee to assess the current security measures in place and submit a report within the next 90 days.
This move follows a recent incident in Rajshahi, where Metropolitan and Sessions Judge Abdur Rahman’s house was attacked, leading to the murder of his school-going son.
The judge's wife was also injured in the attack.
