Meanwhile, the Tariqat Federation secured its second seat in the 10th Parliament while two independent runners won as many seats.

Returning officers of seven constituencies said voting was held on Thursday in a peaceful manner.

Balloting there was marred by violence, sabotage and disruption during the 10th parliamentary election on Jan 5, forcing the Election Commission (EC) to announce re-polling.

The constituencies, spread over five districts are Dinajpur-4, Bogra-7, Jessore-5, Laxmipur-1 and Gaibandha-1, 3 and 4.

Dinajpur-4
Awami League candidate AH Mahmood Ali has been re-elected unofficially from Dinajpur-4 (Chirirbandar-Khansama) constituency, the Returning Officer said.
Voting at 57 polling centres in the seat had been marred by violence and disruption during the Jan 5 elections which had led the EC to order re-polls.
Polling at these centres was held again on Thursday in fair and peaceful manner, Dinajpur district Returning Officer Ahmed Shamim Al Raji said.
The Foreign Minister of the elections-time government, Mahmood Ali bagged 141,232 votes in 120 voting centres including in those troubled 57 centres.
He told bdnews24.com that Ali's only rival Workers Party candidate Enamul Haque Sarker polled a meagre 2,092 votes.
Raji said 55.47 percent votes were cast on Thursday.
Bogra-7
HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party candidate Advocate Altaf Ali has been re-elected unofficially from Bogra-7 constituency (Gabtoli-Shahjahanpur).
Bagging 17,879 votes, Ali beat his rival Aminul Islam Pintu, aspirant from Anwar Hossain Manju-led faction of Jatiya Party, Returning Officer Shafiqur Reza Biswas announced on Thursday night.
Pintu got 10,104 votes.
Out of 422,010 voters in the constituency, 28,521 people cast their votes during the balloting at 46 polling centres on Thursday in a peaceful environment, Biswas said.
The EC had halted voting at these centres following violence on Jan 5. Voting at 115 other centres in this constituency had finished that day.
However, the BNP-led 18-Party alliance had observed a dawn-to-dusk general strike there boycotting the polling.
Jessore-5
Independent candidate Swapan Bhattacharya has been unofficially declared the winner in Jessore-5.
Re-polling was held on Thursday for 60 centres, out of the total 122 centres in the constituency that fell prey to violence on Jan 5.
Returning Officer Mustafijur Rahman declared him winner after counting the ballots.
Bhattacharya’s closest contender, Awami League-nominated candidate Tipu Sultan, was ahead with 12,200 votes after polling at 62 centres on Jan 5.
Bhattacharya bagged 78,424 votes in all the centres and Sultan secured 58,418 votes.

Laxmipur-1
Tariqat Federation, an ally of the ruling Awami League, has won from the Laxmipur-1 (Ramganj) constituency, taking the number of its seats to two in the 10th Parliament.
Voting at the constituency was halted due to violence on Jan 5.
Tariqat-backed candidate MA Awal got 49,656 votes in Thursday’s re-polls while his nearest rival, renegade Awami League aspirant Shafiqul Islam bagged 21,859 votes, according to unofficial results from the Election Commission Secretariat.
Of the 185,652 voters, 74,914 had exercised their franchise. The turnout was 40.35 percent.
Tariqat had won another seat from Chittagong without contest.
Gaibandha-1, 3 and 4
Two Awami League and one independent candidates have won Thursday’s re-polling at three constituencies in Gaibandha.
Awami League’s Monjurul Islam Liton and Yunus Ali won Gaibandha-1 and Gaibandha-3 respectively and independent candidate Abul Kalam Azad won Gaibandha-4 in results announced by Gaibandha Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Md Ehsan.
Votes were held in 206 centres for the three constituencies on Thursday.
Polling was halted on Jan 5 as assailants set fire to these centres, ballot papers and boxes.
Awami League candidate Monjurul Islam Liton’s ‘boat’ got 118,152 votes to bag Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj).
His closest contender Jatiya Party’s Abdul Kader Khan got 13,044 votes for his symbol ‘plough’.
Awami League candidate Yunus Ali with polls logo ‘boat’ got 127,563 votes to win Gaibandha-3 (Sadullapur-Palsahbari). His nearest rival, independent candidate SM Khamedul Islam’s ‘pineapple’ got 18,204 votes.
Independent candidate Abul Kalam Azad, an Awami League renegade, got 98,546 votes for his electoral symbol ‘pineapple’ to win Gaibandha-4.
Awami League-nominated candidate Monowar Hossain Chowdhury came closest with 64, 618 votes.
