Students and job seekers calling for the reinstating of the 2018 notification scrapping the quota system for public sector jobs while neglecting their studies are behaving illogically, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"The students are staging protests demanding to scrap the quotas for freedom fighters and others. I would like to know – of those who staged protests earlier, I would like to know - how many have passed the Public Service Commission exams previously and how many have passed now? The quota system is a sub judice matter and is now undergoing scrutiny by the court,” the prime minister said at a discussion meeting celebrating the founding anniversary of the Jubo Mohila League at the Gonobhaban on Sunday.
"The students are wasting their time by protesting against the court’s order while neglecting their studies. There is no logic to it at all.”
The prime minister also urged Mohila League activists to join a universal pension scheme. “The pension scheme has been designed for everyone. Pensions are meant to provide security for a lifetime. We want everyone to live a better life.”
Hasina noted that the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took several initiatives to ensure women's empowerment.
"The Jubo Mohila League has always played an important role in all of our struggles. It has worked to realise the rights of the people.”
Criticising the BNP, the prime minister said the party could only remain in power for one and a half months after they rigged an election.
“They rose to power by signing an agreement to sell off gas in 2001. They were toppled twice for rigging elections. We must expose their violence to the people. They are nothing but a curse to our society. We must be vigilant to ensure their violence and misdeeds never return.”
