Power generation at the Barapukuria coal-fired thermal power plant in Dinajpur has been completely halted due to a mechanical fault.
Chief Engineer Abu Bakkar Siddique said on Wednesday that boiler pipe leakage forced the shutdown of two units with a combined capacity of 230 megawatts within four days.
Engineers are working to fix the issue.
However, he could not confirm when the plant would resume operations.
The No 3 unit was shut down on Feb 15 due to the fault, followed by the No 1 unit on Tuesday afternoon.
These two units supplied 230MW of electricity to the national grid.
The 125MW No 2 unit has been out of operation since November 2020 due to a major fault.
With the No 1 and No 3 units shutting down within four days, power generation at the plant has now come to a complete halt.
Among the three units at the 525MW Barapukuria power plant, the No 1 and No 2 units have a combined capacity of 250MW, while the No 3 unit has a capacity of 275MW.
