Dhaka’s forecast shows several more days of rain on the way

The active monsoon winds are causing the showers, but they are likely to ease from Oct 14-15, a meteorologist says

Dhaka saw rain on Wednesday morning under the influence of the active monsoon winds. These showers are likely to continue over the next few days, according to a forecast by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Meteorologist Md Omar Faruk said on Wednesday afternoon: “The active monsoon winds are causing the rain. There will be rain, at least a little, every day until the 12th or 13th of October. Then, from the 14th or 15th of October, the monsoon winds will start to depart from Bangladesh.”

In its regular Wednesday bulletin, the BMD said the axis of the monsoon trough is running through East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across the southern part of Bangladesh. The monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate over the North Bay of Bengal.

Under its influence, a few places in the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions may see light to moderate rain or thundershowers in the 24 hours from 9am on Wednesday. There may also be moderately heavy rain in other parts of the country.

Day and night temperatures over the period are likely to remain unchanged over the rest of the country.

Madaripur saw the most rain in the 24-hour period, recording 81mm. Patuakhali saw 72mm of rain, Mymensingh 60mm, Mongla 40mm, and Dhaka District 32mm.

Rajshahi logged the highest temperature in the day at 34.3 degrees Celsius, while the lowest was in Bandarban at 22.5 degrees Celsius.
