As rain eases across the country, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has again forecast heavy downpours starting Friday.
According to Meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallik, temperatures will likely increase until Jul 18 as the rain eases across Bangladesh.
“From Jul 19, the intensity of the rainfall will gradually increase, and it will continue to rain until the end of the month,” said Mallik.
However, for the next 10 days, Sylhet and its surrounding areas will experience intermittent rainfall every day.
According to the morning bulletin issued by the BMD on Saturday, several areas in Mymensingh, Chattogram, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, and Barishal will experience light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers followed by gusty winds in the 24 hours to 9am on Saturday.
In addition, moderate to heavy rains may also drench some places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
The capital recorded 131mm of rainfall in the 24 hours until 6am on Saturday.
Nilphamari’s Saidpur, Feni, and Sylhet recorded 106mm, 98mm, and 91mm of rainfall respectively.
Generally, 1-10 mm of rain a day is called light rain, 11-22 mm is moderate, 23-44 mm is moderately heavy, 44-88 mm is heavy, and over 88 mm is very heavy.
Due to the heavy downpour on Friday, several areas in Dhaka were submerged by rainwater, causing suffering for city residents. Landslides occurred in parts of Cox’s Bazar.
“Heavy rains lashed the region in a short period. Landslides generally occur during heavy downpours,” Mallik said.
In the next 24 hours, daytime and nighttime temperatures will likely increase, according to the weather forecast.
