The interim government has pledged to strongly resist any attempt to vandalise or set fire to establishments and institutions in the country.
In a statement issued late on Thursday night, the Chief Advisor’s Office said: “The interim government is observing with deep concern that certain individuals and groups are attempting to carry out acts of vandalism and arson at various establishments and institutions across the country. The government will firmly counter such activities.”
While the statement did not mention any specific incident, it was issued in the wake of attacks and vandalism at multiple locations, including independence leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence on Dhanmondi Road No. 32.
The statement emphasised that “the interim government is committed to ensuring the safety of citizens and their property.
“If any provocative actions attempt to destabilise the country, law-enforcing agencies will take immediate and strict action against those responsible and bring them to justice.”
Earlier on Thursday, the Chief Advisor’s Office released a statement regarding the attack on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence on Dhanmondi Road No. 32.
Describing the attack as “unfortunate and unwarranted”, the statement noted: “There is deep public outrage stemming from Sheikh Hasina’s provocative remarks against the July Uprising while in hiding in India, which has now manifested in this incident.”
