Bangladesh has recorded 363 new hospitalisations from dengue fever over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number admitted with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease this year to 33,309.

The Directorate General of Health Services provides updates on how many patients are hospitalised from dengue. However, many dengue patients do not go to the hospital. As a result, it is difficult to say exactly how many infections from the disease have been recorded throughout 2025.

Bangladesh’s record for most dengue cases registered in a year is 2023, where 321,179 people were hospitalised with the disease. In 2024, the number was 101,211. It was 62,382 in 2022, 28,429 in 2021, 1,405 in 2020, and 101,354 in 2019.

According to this count, this year’s total is already the fifth highest.

Three more people have died from dengue in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities this year to 130.

Two of them died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while the third died at Chattogram’s private Parkview Hospital. Two of them were women, while one was a man. Two of them were aged 40, while the third was only eight-years-old.

The highest number of dengue deaths this year, 41, was recorded in July, followed by 39 in August.

The DGHS has reported eight deaths this month.

In addition, 19 people died in June, 10 in January, three in February, seven in April, and three in May.

July saw the highest number of dengue hospitalisations this year, with 10,684 admissions. This was followed by August, with 10,496.

Moreover, 1,161 patients were hospitalised in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, 1,773 in May, and 5,951 in June.

A total of 1,833 patients have been admitted in the first four days of September.

Of the new patients admitted in the past 24 hours, 112 were from the two Dhaka city corporations.

Additionally, 70 patients were admitted in the rest of Dhaka Division, 10 in Mymensingh, 50 in Chattogram, 17 in Khulna, 15 in Rajshahi, one in Sylhet, and 88 in Barishal.

Currently, 1,548 patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals nationwide with dengue.

Of them, 508 are admitted to hospitals in Dhaka, and 1,040 are outside the capital.

Bangladesh saw 101,211 hospitalisations from dengue in 2024, with 575 deaths, which is the third-highest annual caseload and the second-highest death toll on record.
