A Biman Bangladesh flight carrying 154 passengers from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka to Singapore has made an emergency landing after the aircraft hit a bird.
Biman spokesman ABM Raoshan Kabir said, “The flight to Singapore suffered a bird hit soon after takeoff. It then returned. The passengers on the flight will head to Singapore on another flight at 1:15pm. The flight hit by the bird is undergoing maintenance.”
The airport authorities said in a statement that an international flight (BG-584) of a Boeing 737-800 model had taken off from Dhaka on its way to Singapore.
It left the airport at 8:38am. The flight had reached an altitude of nearly 2,500 feet when the captain informed the airport of engine trouble.
The flight landed again safely at the airport’s gate B-14 around 9am.
The aircraft was carrying 154 passengers and seven crew members. All of them are safe and healthy.
After the landing, the flight authorities re-inspected the plane, but did not find any unwanted objects or signs of birds.
A decision will be taken on the aircraft’s status after a technical review.
