Dhaka, Nov 16 (bdnews24.com) - Government officials deprived of promotions Thursday verbally abused Establishment Secretary AFM Solaiman Chowdhury at the Bangladesh Secretariat when they staged a demonstration to press demands.
The officials accused Chowdhury of delaying a decision on postings and promotions.
The officials left the office of Chowdhury when additional RAB and police were deployed to tighten security inside the secretariat.
Security was beefed up in and around the secretary's office and undercover intelligence personnel mounted watch inside the secretariat, sources said.
Chowdhury told the officials that a meeting of the Superior Selection Board would be held Tuesday and a list of deprived officials would be sent to the administrative advisory committee for necessary action.
The advisory committee will send the list to President Iajuddin Ahmed for approval, he said.
Witnesses said up to 70 officials gathered in front of the establishment ministry Thursday morning and walked into Chowdhury's office at about 11am to press their demands.
Senior assistant secretary Shafiq Alam Mehedi told reporters that the officials met Chowdhury on their three-point demand.
The demands are promotion of deprived officials, proper postings of OSDs and removal of the officials who allegedly benefited from important positions under the Khaleda government.
