The leaders expressed their displeasure at a press conference in Feni on Thursday.
Several newspapers, including a local publication, ‘Hazarika’, owned by former MP Joynal Hazari, had published reports implicating the Feni-2 MP in the murder of Ekramul, also the president of Phulgazi Upazila Awami League.
Reacting to the report in Hazarika, Nizamuddin said: “I think all information will come out if he (Joynal Hazari) is taken on police remand.”
Feni district Awami League president and Sadar Upazila chairman Abdur Rahman, former acting president and district council administrator Aziz Ahmed Chowdhury, vice-president Akramuzzaman, and district Jubo League convener and Dagonbhuiyan Upazila chairman Didarul Kabir Ratan were present at the press conference.
Nizamuddin criticised the BNP for its acting secretary general attributing the murder to Awami League’s internal feud even before the ruling party and Ekramul’s family made any statement and the filing of any case in connection with the killing.
“The BNP is trying to hide the killers,” he said.
The MP claimed that he participated in the campaign for Ekramul in the last Upazila council election more than he did for any other Awami League-backed aspirant in the district.
