BySenior Correspondent

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina finally inaugurated the first phase of the Moghbazar-Mouchak flyover, the two-kilometre stretch between Ramna and Tejgaon’s Satrasta, at 10am Wednesday.

She joined the opening ceremony at Tejgaon point before her motorcade used the flyover to reach the point near Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital.

She then took part in a ceremony at Officers' Club. The flyover was then opened to traffic around 12pm.

The 8.25-kilometre flyover is being constructed in three parts -- from Holy Family hospital to Tejgaon; Kakrail to Rampura, and Mouchak to Banglamotor.

The project work, which was scheduled to be completed within December 2015, started in 2013 instead of the original schedule of 2011.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone on Feb 16, 2013.

In January, Ecnec extended the Moghbazar-Mouchak Flyover Project by 18 months and revised the expenditure by around Tk 4.47 billion, raising the overall project cost to Tk 12.19 billion.

The time frame of the project was extended because its length was increased after the structure was redesigned.

Earlier, LGRD executive engineer Nazmul Alam told bdnews24.com seventy percent of the project was completed.
