Tejgaon police said the case did not name anyone.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Ramjan Ali said Awami League’s Dhaka Metropolitan Ward 26 unit chief Jahirul Haq had lodged the complaint on Monday night.

Former prime minister Khaleda came under attack at Karwan Bazar while canvassing for party-endorsed Dhaka North mayor aspirant Tabith Awal.

She escaped unharmed but vehicles in her motorcade were damaged.

Her security staff claimed bullets had been fired at Khaleda’s vehicle but it could not be verified independently.

ASI Ali said Khaleda’s security officials and party activists were blamed for the mayhem.

They have been accused of trying to kill people and holding illegal rally, among others, the police officer told bdnews24.com.

Several of Khaleda’s security staff and journalists were injured.

The BNP said the attack “aimed at eliminating Khaleda” and blamed it on the Awami League. It called a daylong shutdown for Wednesday protesting against the attack.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina dubbed the whole episode as a “drama”.

Police said they could neither identify nor detain anyone involved in the attack.
