Hasina questions Khaleda’s wits after Padma Bridge comments

BySenior Correspondent

Khaleda on Tuesday compared the construction of the ‘dream bridge’ with ‘patchwork’ and advised everyone to avoid using it as it would be ‘fragile’ if the government completed it.

“Yes, it’s true in one sense, as every single part of the bridge is made at a time. She, who has no knowledge about how a thing is built, has no brains,” Hasina said on Thursday in reaction to Khaleda’s comments.

“Her intelligence is only about stealing the orphans’ money, burning people alive and killing them,” the prime minister added while addressing the leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League at the Ganabhaban on the organisation’s founding anniversary.

Hasina also spoke about the hurdles her government overcame to start bridging the Padma.

“I challenged (the World Bank) after the allegations of corruption in the project had surfaced. I could challenge them because I had the courage of honesty,” she said.

“And now when we are building the bridge with our own money, Khaleda Zia is saying that the bridge is a patchwork and advising all not to use it,” Hasina said.

About her arch-rival, the Awami League chief said, “She has made it clear through her speech that she doesn’t have the ability to build a bridge. If she had the slightest intelligence, she would not have said it.”

She also spoke about the BCL’s history of glory and struggle and urged the leaders of the Awami League’s student affiliate to follow the history in order to build themselves.
