The accident took place on Dhaka-Mawa Highway near Nimtoli Kalabagan village around 5am on Monday, Hasarha highway police outpost’s in-charge Sergeant Derik Kuiya said.
He identified the deceased as Md Shuvo, 16, Md Rahat, 14, and Md Rafiq, 13. They died on the spot.
The group of teenagers travelling on the pickup was on way to Dhaka from Mawa when the incident occurred, he told bdnews24.com. All the victims were the pickup’s passengers.
Locals rescued and sent them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he added.
DMCH police outpost Inspector Mozammel Haque said 17 teenagers, including the three dead, were brought to the hospital a little after 5:30am.
“Two of the injured have been admitted for further treatment while 12 others, who sustained minor injuries, were released after administering first aid. All the victims are from Shonir Akhrha,” he said.
Sergeant Derik Kuiya said police had impounded the truck and the damaged pickup.
