Students have been asked to clear the residential halls before 3pm Friday.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the university’s academic council around 11am, said student welfare advisor Kamruzzaman Hiro.

The theft of a laptop led to a clash between two rival groups of the Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling Awami League, at the Ziaur Rahman Hall, he said.

One Masum Akhand, a Chhatra League activist, was hospitalised among the three wounded in the conflict that took place around 9pm Thursday.

Chhatra League activists assaulted chemistry student Siddhartha Roy on Tuesday night over the theft. The incident further intensified the rivalry between the factions on campus.
