RU teacher killing: One day remand for eight

Motihar police OC Alamgir Hossain, investigating the Rajshahi University teacher's death, sought seven days to interrogate 11 men on Monday.

But Metropolitan Magistrate Sharmin Akter granted police another day to question eight of them in custody.

Prof Islam, a follower of the renowned Baul, Lalon Shah, was hacked to death near the campus on Nov 15.

Police detained a number of people, including two teachers of a Jamaat-e-Islami-controlled institution, over the killing.

They questioned 11 of them. A court ordered the men to prison on Friday.

OC Hossain on Monday said the eight men had been taken to the metropolitan detective office.

"They will be interrogated there," he added.
