The incident occurred on the BD-11 Block of Kutupalong’s Modhurchora around 1:30pm on Saturday, said Ukhiya Police Station OC Md Abul Khaer.

The deceased has been identified as Mumtaz Ullah, 45. Another Rohingya refugee, Arif Ullah, was detained over the incident.

According to OC Khaer, the two got into a fight over a prior feud from their time in Myanmar and Mumtaz Ullah was injured in the tussle.

“He was taken to IOM Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.”

Stab wounds were found on his body, the OC said.

Arif Ullah, who had lived in the same area as Mumtaz, was responsible for his death, Khaer said.

“Mumtaz Ullah was involved in the death of one of Arif Ullah’s brothers when they lived in Myanmar. The two fled Myanmar and eventually took refuge in the Kutupalong camp. The fight between them broke out over this prior feud.”
