Rajshahi calm in strike

Police said its supporters were still not seen on the streets , except for bringing out one procession.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner SM Monir-uz-Zaman said police was ready for all eventualities.

The strike was called hours after International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Wednesday fixed Thursday to deliver the verdict on Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee for crimes committed against humanity during the Liberation War of 1971.

Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were seen heavily deployed throughout Rajshahi city. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were also deployed.

A pro-shutdown procession was brought out in Harian area around 5:30am, reported bdnews24.com Rajshahi Correspondent. A truck was damaged by the processionists at that time.

Our Rajshahi Correspondent also reported attacks on another bus and a truck in Belpukur area of Puthia upazila.

Long route bus services from the city were grounded. Authorities said all trains from the railway station left on time. Offices and courts were running as usual.
