Rajib’s elder brother Abu Taher, 48, said that his brother Jahangir Alam’s (now known as Rajib Gandhi) terror links and related activities forced him to quit home and settle down at a different location about 10 years ago.

Rajib's ancestral house is located at Bhootmara area of Banorpara Union under Sagatha Upazila in Gaibandha.

Rajib, known as a mastermind of the Gulshan carnage was arrested from Tangail on Friday. Some 17 foreigners were killed in Gulshan café attack.

Speaking to bdnews24.com, Taher said that he left home and settled in Gobindaganj with another brother, Abdul Alim, who moved away to Malancha in the same Upazila a few years after that.

Jahangir too bought a house in Malancha, but "they were far away", Taher said, emphasising that no family member has any contact with Jahangir now.

Locals in Bhootmara area backed up Taher's claim saying that Rajib was following in the footsteps of hanged JMB terrorist Bangla Bhai while in the village itself.

Locals, on condition of anonymity, said they recall Jahangir was close to Abdur Rahman, a teacher who joined the local madrasa.

They believe that the teacher was also associated with terror activities.

Rahman quit the village when the authorities began crackdown on terrorists.

Taher further revealed that Jahangir, alias Rajib stayed in his new Malancha house only for a year or two.

"He had told us and the neighbourswhile leaving area that he was moving to Bogra for his children's education," Taher said.
