Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman said that the incident happened early on Monday morning at Moghbazar Wireless intersection area.

"The shooting broke out when miscreants fired at a detective police team that raided the area. A youth was shot during the exchange of fire."

He was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 4am where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police arrested two from the spot, who confirmed the identity of Kala Babu, said Rahman, adding a pistol and three rounds of ammunition were recovered.

On Aug 28, a group of assailants entered a house at Moghbazar's Sonalibagh area and shot dead three people, owner ‘Brishty’ alias ‘Ranu’, 30, tenants ‘Munna’, 22, and ‘Belal’, 20.

Ranu’s 18-year old brother, ‘Hridoy’, was left wounded.

The family blamed local "crime boss" Kala Babu, saying he had been demanding extortion money for some time.
Police, however, believe the murders were a sequel to a dispute over the possession of a plot of land misappropriated from the Bangladesh Railway.
Brishty was the sister of Awami League's Maghbazar Railway unit General Secretary Kala Chan.
Locals say Kala Chan controlled the railway land and Brishty had built tin-roof rooms there and rented them out.
Kala Babu was a contender for the land, they said.
