One dies as train derails at Mirsharai

Railway control room said the accident took place between Mirsharai and Mastan Nagar railway stations around 12:30pm on Monday.

Police are saying at least one person has died in the accident.

Sitakunda Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Salahuddin Shikder told bdnews24.com three compartments towards the end of the train had gone off the tracks.

He said a passenger was seen trapped under one of the compartments.

Chittagong Station Manager Shamsul Alam said the mail train left the station around 11am.

Railway East Chief Engineer Mahbub Ul Alam said a rescue train had been sent to the spot of the accident.

"There are parellel tracks in the area, so traffic will not be affected," he said.
