According to a circular signed by Cabinet Secretary Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, from now on the ministry will be called as the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.
Secretary of the ministry's Road Transport and Highways division MAN Siddique said that the name 'communication ministry' creates confusion among the international community. Foreigners often come to the ministry thinking departments like railways, water transportation or even the ICT are incorporated here.
There have been incidents when the ministry has been mistaken as the government's public relation wing, he added.
"The ministry had sent the proposal to the Cabinet Division to avoid these type of confusions. The new name will reflect the ministry's work properly", Siddique told bdnews24.com.
