Man takes his own life after killing four in Moulvibazar

The incident took place in the Pallartal tea garden in Shahbazpur Union around 5:30am on Sunday, said Roksana Begum, assistant sub-inspector of Barlekha Police Station.

The alleged murderer has been identified as ‘Nirmal’ who killed his wife ‘Joly’, mother-in-law ‘Laxmi’, neighbour ‘Basanta’ and his daughter ‘Sheuly’.

“Nirmal and Joly had an altercation around 5am in the morning. Nirmal started beating Joly at one point and she took shelter in her parents’ room,” an eyewitness said.

Nirmal forcibly entered the room and began to hack Joly with a sharp weapon. When his mother-in-law and the neighbours tried to rescue her, he hacked them as well. After leaving the four dead on the spot, Nirmal committed suicide by hanging himself.

Nirmal was an addict, police said.
