Man dies in Shailkupa ‘gun battle’

Two policemen were also injured in the gun battle in Kanapukuria village at 2:30 am Monday.

The deceased had a driver’s license of one Monirul Islam of Harinakundu Upazila in his pocket.

Shailkupa Police OC Iqbal Bahar Choudhury said they received a tip off about a gang gathering next to Kanapukuria-Sherpur road.

A police team who went to raid the area were fired upon by the gang, he said.

“The gun battle lasted for around 14 to 15 minutes and most of the miscreants fled the scene. Police later found a bullet-hit body, a shutter gun, one round on ammunition and knife in the area,” said OC Iqbal.
