Lawyers oppose digitalisation of Cause Lists

BySenior Correspondent

The Court had earlier decided to publish the lists online starting from Feb 1.

Supreme Court Registrar Gen Syed Aminul Islam announced the decision of digitalisation during a press conference early Thursday afternoon.

Reacting to the announcement, senior lawyers met the Chief Justice after calling an emergency meeting of the Supreme Court Bar Council.

In the evening, an announcement on the Supreme Court’s website said that the printed cause-list would continue to be disseminated till Feb 15.

Bar Council Vice Chairman Abdul Baset told bdnews24.com that the Chief Justice had said lawyers would receive training on using the digital cause-list as of Monday.

He added that they would also have the option to take print outs of the documents from the website.

The Supreme Court disburses 2,600 copies of the cause-list every day, each costing Tk 400.

The annual expense for the lists goes up to Tk 200 million, he said.

The Supreme Court has been issuing cause-lists online on a trial basis since last November.
