Garment factory in Mirpur catches fire

Smoke was seen coming out of the five-storey building that houses factory ‘Cordial Design’ around 5:30pm Sunday, Fire Service and Civil Defence Control Room official Brojen Sarkar said.

The unit is located on the third floor.

Thirteen fire engines fought for more than an hour to extinguish the blaze, he said.

The fire started from the factory’s storage room and has damaged the materials, said lineman Md Lovlu.

Several workers have been injured while hurrying out of the building in panic, the lineman said.

The fire has only caused damages to the factory's warehouse, said Fire Services Director (Operations) Md Mahbub.

The injured workers have been taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
