BySylhet Correspondent

He was replying to a query from journalists at a programme in Sylhet’s MC College on Saturday afternoon.

Since the launching of mobile operator Robi’s WiFi service, the risk of misuse of technologies has increased worldwide, the minister said.

“Cyber security is now a serious issue,” he said.

The draft of a digital security law is being prepared to prevent cyber crimes, he further informed.

“Very soon it will be sent to the Cabinet for approval.”

He said the law would help prevent cyber crimes and anti-national activities on the internet.

The minister pointed out that within six years the number of internet users increased from 1.2 million to 56 million.

He said the government plans to set up 100,000 WiFi zones across the country with government and private initiatives to provide internet facilities to the people.

The government recently closed down Facebook, Messenger, Viber, WhatsApp and some other multi-media Apps, citing “security reasons”.
