EU, Canada, UK condole landslides deaths in Bangladesh

At least 133 people including four soldiers died after heavy rain triggered landslides.

Head of the EU Delegation in Dhaka Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon in a statement expressed his “heart-felt sorrow and solidarity” for the loss of lives and property caused by landslides in the early hours ofTuesday.

He also expressed his sympathy for those who have died while conducting rescue operations.

“If requested, the European Union stands ready to provide support to alleviate the impact of this severe natural disaster,” he said.

“As a long-standing partner of Chittagong Hill Tracts, the European Union sends a strong message of solidarity to all affected people”.

Canadian High Commissioner Benoît-Pierre Laramée in a statement said they were “saddened” to learn the casualties from landslides. “We grieve with the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones, and wish all those injured a speedy and full recovery. Our thoughts are for all affected”.

British High Commissioner Alison Blake tweeted: “Condolences to the families for the precious lives lost in the landslides in Chittagong districts. Our thoughts and prayers for all affected”.
