Authorities call off rescue operation at Tampaco factory site

Gazipur’s Deputy Commissioner SM Alam officially called off the joint rescue operation by the army and the fire service on Monday.

“We have decided to remove the debris now and call off the operation as we are certain that all the bodies have been recovered,” he said.

Lt Col Md Azam, acting mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Asadur Rahman Kiron and Gazipur Fire Service Deputy Director Akhteruzzaman were present at the meeting held at the BISIC industrial area in Tongi.

The Aug 10 fire has claimed 34 lives and left at least 40 injured.
