The national anti-graft agency says officials were found taking Tk 300 to Tk 1,000 from citizens for health certificates during a drive on Wednesday.

The ACC conducted the operation following a complaint filed by a victim through its phone hotline “106”, its spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told bdnews24.com.

The officials at the civil surgeon’s office admitted to taking money illegally from the citizens for the certificates, Bhattacharya said.

ACC Director General (Administration) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury coordinated the drive.

“This corruption had been happening there for a long time. The ACC will take legal action based on the confessions and other evidences against the people responsible for this,” he said.

The ACC was also working to catch the perpetrators in the act, he added.

Assistant Director Md Zakaria and Deputy Assistant Director Md Saiduzzaman were also in the team that conducted the operation.

No comments of the civil surgeon’s office on the ACC drive were available immediately.
