45 Partex workers detained

ByGazipur Correspondent

The employees of two Partex group factories were nabbed from the Gazipur Sadar Upazila’s Banglabazar area on Wednesday night.

The factory workers have stopped work in protest from Thursday morning, demanding the release of the detainees.

Jaidebpur Police OC Khandaker Rezaul Karim Reza said former Banglabazar Superintendent Akram Hossain had purchased hundred acres of land. Partex authorities claimed they bought the land from Hossain in 2003 but the owner had died in 1997.

A businessman, Zakaria Hossain, filed a case over the incident at the Jaidebpur Police Station on Wednesday night.

“After that the Partex factory workers went to grab the land around 2:30am and were detained,” said the OC Rezaul Karim.
However, the factories’ Deputy General Manager Nizam Uddin has denied the allegation. Instead, he has accused the police of vandalism and looting inside the factories.
He claimed that when the workers had gone to sleep in their homes and dormitories after work on Wednesday night, police entered and detained ‘innocent’ factory workers after ‘assault and vandalism’.
Police ‘looted’ laptops, mobile phones and other valuables, he complained.
Nizam Uddin said, the workers are observing a break in service from Thursday morning in protest.
