Three bodies recovered from Jhalakathi trawler capsize

The bodies were recovered by the fire service diver squad after they floated up on Tuesdaymorning, said Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station Investigator (Operations) Md Mahe Alam.

Three passengers had gone missing around 7:30am on Friday after the trawler sank following a collision with a steamer.

The victims were 32-year-old Razzak Mollik Raza from Ichalia village in the Jhalakathi Sadar Upazila’s Ponabalia Union, 50-year-old Taslim Howladar from Dewri village and 45-year-old Alam Jamaddar from Mohidpur village.

The bodies of Razzak and Alam were spotted on the river near the Jhalakathio City College Kheyaghat around 7am on Tuesday.

Taslim’s body was found around 8am, having surfaced in the Bishkhali River around Manki village in the Rajapur Upazila, Inspector Alam told bdnews24.com.

The trawler carrying the three men had been travelling from Rajapur village to Kheyaghat early on Friday morning.

It was struck by the Madhumati steamer heading from Dhaka to Khulna and sank with its 11 passengers.

Fishermen rescued eight passengers , including the trawler’s crew, but three others went missing.

The three who died were construction workers in Jhalakathi and were travelling to work during the accident.
