1,400 overpasses to be built
Thursday's announcement comes amid growing number of accidents and deaths at rail crossings.
After a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Railways, committee chief ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury said there were around 2,500 rail crossings in the country.
Of these, 1,400 crossings were under the railways and rest were either under the roads division or the local government division, he said.

"The railways ministry will construct overpasses at crossings which are under it," he said.
Several people have died in accidents at the crossings in Dhaka and other parts of the country. Last August, 11 people were killed when a bus collided with a train in Jhenaidah.
Chowdhury said they would recommend building overpasses over rail crossings that were under the roads and local government.
