The Humboldt Broncos team bus had 28 on board, including the driver. Fourteen people in critical condition have been taken to the hospital. The team list shows the players were all between 16 and 21 years of age.

The team was on its way to a Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League play-off game against the Nipawin Hawks.

“I cannot imagine what these parents are going through, and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy, in the Humboldt community and beyond,” wrote Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a tweet.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police inspector Ted Munro said rescue efforts were underway and that an information and support centre had been set up at the Nipawin Apostolic Church for the families.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families tonight," he said.
